Mine Safety Fact:  During the period 1990 to 1998, MSHA found that a failure to provide fall protection contributed to 37 metal and nonmetal mine fatalities.   The safety belt and line standard was the single most commonly cited safety violation found in connection with metal and nonmetal mining deaths.
