Mine Safety Fact:  On Oct. 11, 2000, 250 million gallons of coal sludge flowed into Kentucky waterways when an impoundment failed.  While most issues impacting the Nation’s waterways are regulated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, coal refuse impoundments are regulated by MSHA.
