Mine Safety Fact: In February, 2005, seven current or former executives of a mining company were indicted on federal charges that they knowingly put their workers and the public in danger through exposure to vermiculite ore contaminated with asbestos from the company's mine in Libby, Montana.  In addition to asbestos, mining presents other industrial hygiene challenges as well, including diesel, silica, mercury, coal dust, other air contaminants and noise.
