Mine Safety Fact:  On April 8, 2003, a U.S. District Court judge permitted a MSHA inspector to proceed with a law suit against a coal company for damages related to injuries that he sustained from a rock fall while inspecting the company’s mine.   Typically, mining companies purchase insurance to protect against liabilities arising from such risks.
